Bad odours can be embarrassing. No one wants other people to come into their personal space, whether it’s their home, car, or caravan, and smell nasty odours.
The problem is that most products that eliminate odours are also full of chemicals that are bad for you and the environment. So how can a person eliminate odour naturally? Well actually there are several ways:
- Baking soda
Baking soda is one of the best-known substances in natural cleaning. It can be used as an abrasive scrub, and it’s well known that putting a container of baking soda in your fridge will keep things fresh.
But did you know there are many other ways you can use it as well? That same baking soda can be put anywhere odours develop. It can be put in the bottom of your rubbish bin, in shoes, or near a cat litter box or clothing hamper to absorb odour.
Vinegar can be used in much the same way baking soda can. You can even put a cup of vinegar in a room that needs to be freshened to have it absorb odours from the whole room.
It, of course, has its own strong scent but this will quickly dissipate once the vinegar is removed. Vinegar is a great addition to natural cleaning solutions for the same reason.
Lemon works like baking soda and vinegar as well. The great advantage of lemon is it has a lovely fresh scent of its own.
Some great ways to use it are to boil some lemon peel to give your whole house a fresh scent. Or you can put some lemon peel down the food waste disposal to eliminate lingering odours.
- House plants
House plants are another great way to keep a space smelling fresh. They filter odours and toxins out of the air as part of their natural metabolism.
There are also a host of other benefits of keeping house plants. There have been several studies linking house plants to increased productivity and mood. You can even grow edible herbs or small vegetables like hot peppers for added benefit.
